Jar of Fortune Files

Here you can find the fortune files from various operating systems.

Notes:

• The Plan 9 fortunes file includes the contents of Bell Labs‘ research Unix fortunes file.
• There seem to be some overlap between the OpenBSD and the FreeBSD fortunes files.
• Contact me if you have another fortunes collection that you would like added to this ‘jar’(specially from other Unix variants), or if you want to suggest a new entry for the cat-v fortunes file.

TODO:

• Standardize the format of all the fortunes files which right now are in their own idiosincratic formats.
• Provide a (web?)service to pick a random fortune.
