WhatsApp charges its users $1 per year. With 450 million users, it will take Facebook more than 40 years to recover its investment on current figures. Quite clearly, the bottom line is not a compelling argument – which begs two questions: why has Facebook paid so much; and will it change WhatsApp to increase revenue?
