Who's Freezing Hiring from Coronavirus

LIVE Who's freezing hiring from coronavirus

Hi, I'm David — the CTO at Candor.

Seeing many of my friends worried about this, I took some time out to compile this list of companies freezing hiring or doing layoffs (and the few that are still hiring).

I hope it helps. I'll keep updating it live, so email me at hello@candor.co if you're hearing anything.

What you should know about hiring freezes

Our read on the situation: recessions tend to make companies close to failure fail faster and accelerate stronger companies. It's not all doom and gloom — for already dominant players, recessions tend to wipe out competitors, make it easier to acquire talent and provide breathing room to invest in big leaps forward.

Tech is likely to take a hit, but overall continue to remain one of the most productive parts of the economy and be relatively better off.

Recessions affect different sectors very unevenly. Be cautious of companies that represent non-essential/discretionary spend, like travel (e.g. Uber & Lyft), food delivery and entertainment. Ad budgets tend to also be cut quickly, be cautious about business models that depend highly on ads (although Facebook & Google are likely to be able to weather the storm).
