Revolution in Belarus People are demanding Lukashenko to go home

Violent scenes are taking place this evening in Minsk, the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic, where law enforcement officials, with President Aleksandr Lukashenko, are battling the contestants.

On the same evening, according to exit polls, Aleksandr Lukashenko would have won the election again by 79.7%, while opposition candidate Svetlana Tihanovskaia would have won only 6.8% of the suffrages.

Opposition candidate Svetlana Tihanovskaia’s spokeswoman claimed her victory based on “real” results from 20 polling stations. The official asked the Central Election Commission to declare the correct results on Monday. Tihanovskaia herself urged police not to forget “that it is part of the nation.” “I know that citizens will wake up tomorrow in a new country and I hope that tomorrow will bring good news. Aleksandr Lukashenko is in his sixth term as president of Soviet-state Belarus and has ruled the country since 1994. He is in office for the longest time of all European heads of state (except monarchs). In Belarusian society, the “Old Man” is unofficially called.

President Aleksandr Lukashenko’s forces are making arrests, while demonstrators are wounded.
