How Good Are You at Defending against the Bad Guys?

Soccer football ball isolated on white. Clipping path included.

If you’re a soccer fan, you probably know that FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ is in full swing this month and soon will reach a fever pitch as the soccer teams battle to make it into the final match.

Trend Micro is proud to be a National Sponsor of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.  We are leveraging this sponsorship to raise awareness about our company, as well as its mission to the make the world safe for exchanging digital information.

Right now, many highly-skilled female footballers from around the globe are attacking the opposition and working hard to get the ball past defenders and goalkeepers and into the net.

When it comes to your personal information and vital data, cyber criminals are also serious players on the offensive—always trying to get past your defenses to steal data or hijack your computer system.

Find out how good you are at blocking their attacks by taking a short quiz. Are you closer to being a “bench warmer” or a reliable “brick wall” when it comes to your knowledge about and habits with online security? Take the online quiz now to find out how good and tough you really are on cyber criminals.

We are also asking soccer fans visiting the Trend Micro booth in the “Fan Zone” outside the stadiums in Vancouver and Ottawa to test their defensive skills.

Already, a couple of thousand World Cup fans have taken the quiz. They’ve provided us with enough data to give us a good idea of current cyber security trends and issues that the general public as well as businesses are experiencing.

Looking at the stats, we can see that nearly 10% of the general public (fairly evenly divide between those over and under the age of 30) do not employ Internet security on their computers and mobile devices. That’s 10% too many, especially when you consider “for less than $50, a budding cybercriminal can be coached in info theft, fraud, and malware creation in the Brazilian underground market.”*

Another interesting stat gleaned from the quiz: 27% of those responding have had their email, social media, or bank accounts hacked. This means that more than one in four people have been a victim of cybercrime.

Obviously, when more than a quarter of Internet users have had their accounts hacked, it’s a big problem. The challenge isn’t just for individuals as we know by the almost daily headlines about the latest massive data breaches of businesses and government agencies.

Adding to this concern, our quiz stats tell us that 50% of people who took the quiz revealed that they use their personal devices for “work purposes.” If 27% of them have been hacked, you can see they are potentially opening up their workplace networks to cyber attackers.

Most of our quiz-takers think they are pretty savvy when it comes to defending against the bad guys. What type of defender do you think you are? Are you “A Brick Wall” or a “Drop Back Defender”? Or are you a “Benchwarmer” or “Rookie Sweeper”? Take the quiz to find out.
