Symantec, Blue Coat integrate threat intelligence operations, research

Symantec said it has bolstered its security intelligence tools by integrating Blue Coat's technology.

The integration on threat detection comes after Symantec's $4.6 billion acquisition of Blue Coat. The company said they have integrated product lines for data loss prevention and cloud protection.

According to Symantec, the addition of Blue Coat's artificial intelligence tools and security telemetry gives it the ability to analyze 9 trillion elements of security data. The data is used to thwart incoming attacks.

Symantec's research team focus on incoming attacks and the visibility from protecting 175 million consumer and enterprise end points. Blue Coat's research team has been categorizing, mapping and following malware movements.

What will be worth following with the Symantec-Blue Coat combination is whether the scale and product integration will help thwart more threats in advance. Blue Coat and Symantec products are exchanging threat indicators daily. Symantec reckons is has thwarted 500,000 additional attacks from swapping information with Blue Coat.
