Quick Facts


To virtualize a 64-bit application with ThinApp, you must



  • Use ThinApp 5.0 for capture

  • Use a 64-bit Windows 7 capture machine

  • Deploy the ThinApp package to a 64-bit Windows 7 machine


If you virtualize a 32-bit application on a 64-bit capture machine, you must also deploy to a 64-bit Windows 7 machine.


Answers to Commonly Asked Questions


Q: When do I need to use ThinApp 5.0?


A: When you want to virtualize a 64-bit app.


Q: Can I capture a 16-bit app or a 32-bit app with ThinApp 5.0?


A: Yes.


Q: Do I need a 64-bit capture machine to virtualize an application with ThinApp 5.0?


A: Only if you are capturing a 64-bit application. (In other words, you must use a 64-bit capture machine to virtualize a 64-bit application.)


If you are virtualizing a 32-bit application, you can use either a 32-bit capture machine or a 64-bit capture machine.


Q: When do I need a 64-bit build machine? (This question is for those of you who have separate capture and build machines.)


A: Any application, 32- or 64-bit, captured on a 64-bit capture machine must be built on a 64-bit build machine.


Q: Can I capture and build on a Windows 8 machine with ThinApp 5.0?


A: Yes.


Q: Can I deploy a ThinApp 5.0 package to a Windows 8 machine?


A: Yes.


Q: Are both streaming and local deployment of ThinApp 5.0 64-bit applications supported?


A: Yes.


Q: Will applications virtualized with ThinApp 5.0 run on Horizon View 5.2.x desktops?


A: Yes, but only 32-bit applications. ThinApp 5.0 64-bit virtualized applications will be supported in an upcoming release of Horizon View.


Q: Will applications virtualized with ThinApp 5.0 integrate with the current version of Horizon Workspace (1.5.x)?


A: Yes, but only 32-bit applications. A later version of Horizon Workspace will integrate ThinApp 5.0 64-bit virtualized applications.
